Beyond Horizon VII: The Star Spire

By Alexander Kecskes

Hither come thee, O’ witness, into the temple of my Lore. Thereupon the wall, feast your eyes, for it is there the Tale begins. A tale based upon the Scripture of Man, which is not ill-fated. Past, Present, Future, the wise know of the Past and of the Present, many know the Present and little of the Past. But very few know of the Foretimes, even the very wise cannot illuminate. The Tale, based upon the Scripture of Man, is Revelation.

“Why are you smiling?” Alan asked as sunlight gave his face a yellowish pigment.

Klanferos’s smile never left him, his emerald eyes reflected the small bit that could be seen of Belnor.  “I have… never flown before.”

Alan looked confused, “Really? You being an Avacastian and all, I thought you would have flown. I mean, how did you get from Avacasti to Belnor?”

“Antarctican Ocean Train… stowed away.”  Alan nodded in an understanding manner.  The Ocean Train circum of the Antarctic Realm connected all the islands, as it travels, clinging to an anti-gravity energy beam, at super sonic speeds.    It was dusk, the clouds were of rose complexion. The sun’s golden reflection upon the ocean horizon, astounded Klanferos.  In the sky, were dashes of violet, rose, and blue, painted so well.  It was indescribably for any being to discern into words.  “What majesty! What brilliant mind could paint this? How great thou art!”

“Why thank you!” Alan smirked in sarcasm.

“Okay, enough of planet Earth, let’s hit Space!” muttered one of the marines. Suddenly the air pressure changed, as the vessel ascended the sky, and beyond the atmosphere.  Klanferos watched as the blue sky gradually transitioned from blue to dark blue, to black speckled in scattered tinkles of light.  The emerald green and sapphire blue complexion of Earth’s sphere glowed below.  Outer Space was speckled with stars and distant planets, not to mention, man-made flying objects. Peeping around the cover of Earth was the great Sun, Star King of Milky Way Stars.  Orbiting the planet, Earth were billions of star vessels.  Star cities, Star Bases, Star maintenances, Star Mines were orbiting, either as gigantic metallic space castles, or metal structures built upon tamed meteorites.   Not to mention, trillions of satellites hovering about and everywhere in the galaxy.  There were even intergalactic highways-to direct space traffic- lined by tamed stars.  Tamed stars, are natural stars that were succumbed to the multi-magnetism technology, therefore they are held in place by an artificial galactic magnetic field of energy.

More than nothing was in Outer Space in the foretimes. Elements were the source of technology, for they too have all been tamed, thus the great achievement of mankind of whom struggled arduously for such a feat over countless ages.   This sight was a dream come true for Klanferos, as he admired the technological beauty and accomplishment, slowly and carefully woven throughout the ages.  True the virtue of man has been poisoned, but their skill in creation, and replication have advanced all through the years, thanks to the great minds of their ancestors.  Everything had been discovered, everything had been explored, and everything had been invented-or so it was so for the nature of man’s perception.

Klanferos noticed something peculiar about the sun. “The Sun,” he shouted, everyone looked. “it is dim.”    The others lowered their heads in sadness.  Recknem coughed, and cleared his throat.

“It has been so for the last two hundred years.” Recknem told him. Klanferos noticed billions of robotic machines hovering about the sun.  “We have stabilizers orbiting it. There are rumors the sun is upon the brink of super nova, and if that happens, Earth, humanity, and all that we fight for will be lost forever.”

“Why do we linger in taking no action when a doom far worse than the threat of Zarn shrouds our galaxy?”

“It is our secondary star war. As Earth Defense we preserve human life, and in doing so we must first deal with the immediate threat, the CAZ.”    Klanferos took another look at the ailing Sun, and grimaced feeling a determination to combat the impending threat upon humanity’s survival.  This all the more motivated him to fight for EDU.  There she is in all her majesty! Star Base Omega, The Star Spire.”

“Saddle up, boys!” said the pilot. “We’re entering artificial atmosphere!”  As he finished, the star craft entered a metallic colored bubble encasing a colossal structure, shaped like one great spire.  It bore six arms branching forth from the rounded interior. Over each branch were plasma generated arches ample of power supply.  Radars, antennae, satellites, cables, and lights were latched upon the structure in scattered formation.  All the lights were neon green, which sometimes morphed to a pinkish color.  Rings of space traffic circled the Spire.

The great Star Spire towered the Earth far below. Her mighty arms were branched aloft.   The pinnacle of the Spire was diamond shaped glowing blue.  An ominous presence it was in the universe.  Into the grand structure they entered, a rectangular shape on the station’s side unfolded open, granting entrance.

Klanferos was awestruck, likewise to his friend, Alan.  “Never before, have I laid eyes upon such magnificence as this.   Certain have I read of such space castles, but ever dared to hope to see such? No, ever to see this? Never.” Dolgere laughed in disbelief at his words.  “It would be here? This castle that is set upon an ocean of stars bereft of horizon?” Klanferos grinned shaking his head.   He was overjoyed and yet afraid, but was determined to never lose his cool, collected composure.

Alan was at a loss of words, and could not look away from the window glistening in starlight. A sapphire eyed marine marked his sight on Klanferos, and spoke. “Outer Space, the Ocean of Stars, the black veil separating the natural world from the supernatural, changes any man birthed from the universe, despite of single diversity. If only it were possible to create diversity through equality, and equality through diversity.” Klanferos returned a glance at the man. The man’s head was shaved, but had an odd deep blue hairline.  His arms and torso were bulging in muscles. His look was sharp like that of newly crafted blade.

“Ah, but it has been done so in humans.” Klanferos replied.

“What mean you of this matter?” the man asked.

“Each and every being, a person, a soul, possesses a nature.   All human natures are equal, but their persons are not.  As they say, ‘No one is the same.’  It is clearly impossible to replicate one person through another person, lest they be cloned. Diversity can be achieved through equality, and equality be achieved through diversity.   There is diversity in the world of souls, and there is equality in the world of natures, considering humans in this case.   Therefore nature comes from soul, and soul from nature, and diversity comes from equality and equality from diversity. They exist as one and will never be parted.”

The man widened his eyes, he was impressed. “You logic is well witted! What name have you?”

“Klanferos Dolgere, and you?”

“Psitalvus Motonall.” The two commenced a talking as the ship entered the primary tractor beam.  The hangar bay threshold was immense, and so well crafted, spiraling pillars edified wall panels flickering in multi-colored neon lights.

“Welcome to Star Base Omega, Gentlemen, The Star Spire!” Recknem told them.   The star vessel parked in place after following the traffic lane indicators.    A platform extended from the ship, and out came Klanferos, Motanoll, Alan, Recknem, and others.   After thanking the pilot, they exited the hangar rotunda.   They passed through long hallways, took long elevators, and boarded linear laser fueled trains connecting one district of the massive space city to the other.

“You are now entering District: Grand Central Station.” Spoke the automated voice over the train’s intercom. Chills slipped down Klanferos’s spine, this was the most eventful day since his knighting into the Avacasti Order.

“This is our stop gentlemen.” Recknem told the others.

“Please step away from the doors. The doors are opening.” Everyone did as the automated voice commanded.    When they stepped into the main plaza of Grand Central, Klanferos and Alan were astounded by the crowds of man and machine fluttering about. This site was closely in unison with his visions of how space looked. Klanferos was not given chance to take in much of the city in Grand Central, other than the fact it looked like any other space city one would see on Earth- looming skyscrapers, lights of many colors scattered everywhere. Quite a beauty the site was, but not ideally what Klanferos had in mind the space city would look like. But it would suffice, as such are the accepting ways of man.

“This is the marine corps you are enlisting within, you are certain any of you rather not join the army, navy or air-force? I did both the marines and air-force, perhaps why I may know so much about what I do to be honest. I am after all not some kind of gifted superhero.” They all laughed. “Marines, right?” Everyone one nodded in reply. “Good then it is settled. Remember you can all ways join the other departments.” They nodded acknowledging his words. “Very well, then let us off to the barracks!”

They were lead to the barracks of the marine corps for initiation. There was no ceremony held, nothing dramatic, in fact it seemed to be kept quiet that there were new recruits walking among those of the EDU armed forces. This in fact was nothing like Klanferos’s initiation into the Avacasti knighthood. There were no ornate armors, swords and medals bestowed upon anyone, in fact the only thing bestowed would be a swift kick in the ass from the drill sergeant. In the dead of the night Recknem left Klanferos, Alan, and Motonall, and two others before the barracks entrance. A pair of doors slid open, and out came the drill sergeant, at that moment immediately demanding the gentlemen to drop and give him fifty, and fifty as in fifty pushups. “Muscle-makers” Klanferos would call them. For many it was tough as it was for Klanferos, to deal with merciless brutality. Many would cry and wither away from the core, whereas Klanferos was patient, believing that the sergeant’s vigorous treatment was for his benefit. They were there only to help.
“Damn sons, you don’t start moppin’ that floor, there’s no tellin’ the hell in shit what I’ll do to ya. Damn it make me proud like you would wit yo damn mothas!” among the five new recruits Klanferos dutifully replied to the foul mouther sergeant.

“Sir, yes sir!” This was the only courtesy one could give this guy without a nice beating. Alan was beaten on occasion, for his questioning and lazy behavior. He did not mind it much, rather he and Klanferos found it humorous, in an odd sort of way.

As the days of vigorous training had come and gone, Klanferos Dolgere learned the fighting styles and techniques of the Military Earth Defense and applied them to what he knew of his Avacasti training. One day Recknem ordered a soldier to escort Klanferos and his training squad into the special weapons depot on one of the upper levels in the Star Spire.

“And this is our weapons depot.” announced the escort. They stood before a long hallway, every wall lined with weapon racks. Upon those racks were diverse weapons so many in difference beyond imagination.

“Oh man! That’s so cool!” Alan exclaimed running his fingers up and down each rifle.

“Amazing! Technology most certainly has perfected the craft of weaponry!” Klanferos added profoundly with a lick of pride.

“And these our the heavy weapons.” When the soldier proctor was not looking, Alan picked up a laser-fueled rocket launcher, admiring its features. It had radar sights, with scopes. There were ten barrels on the beastly rifle.

“Oh dude this is so sweet!!!” Alan called Klanferos over in a whisper, as he struck a pose pointing the gun. “Oh man check me out. I am so beast right now!”

“That is impressive. I wonder how much damage that thing can do?” Klanferos said.

Alan laughed, “Well, man, there’s only one way to find out.” He started to pull the trigger.

“Alan don’t-”

“Bang!” Alan laughed. “Scared ya, didn’t I?” Klanferos nodded. Then Alan noticed an even bigger Rocket Launcher. “Ooh ooh, I must see that!” He ran over picked up the gun, pulled the trigger, and…

BOOM!

Alan went flying thirty feet backwards, not to mention he destroyed several rows of gun racks. The proctor turned. Klanferos was frozen aghast, amazed by the stupidity that si his friend.

Meanwhile just sat there, face covered in smoke, panting. HIs hair was fried to the frizz. He had quite the dumbfounded look on his face. “Oh shit!” he said. Oh shit indeed.

The repercussions were wonderful, the courtesy beating from the sergeant, fifty muscle-makers, and an entire two and a half days cleaning the weapons depot from to to bottom. But Klanferos and Alan, could not help themselves, but laugh over the silly matter. Even Recknem found the event to be somewhat funny, to an extent that is. In the world of finance, this was not.

After a month of vigorous training, and Klanferos growing stronger by the day, He soon began to transcend the others in his rank by his efforts. The commanders noticed this. After another three seasons passed, the war between Earth and Zarn soon reached the Human’s Solar System.

It would be on Earth’s Moon, where Klanferos Dolgere would fight his first battle as a soldier of the United Continents of Earth against the wicked forces of the Confederate Armies of Zarn.
